Local Love: Woodhouse Day Spa

WARNING: MAJOR DECLARATION AHEAD
I had the best facial I’ve ever had in my life. It’s kind of a milestone event. And I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long to tell you about it.

I was invited by Woodhouse Day Spa, a national franchise founded in 2001 in, of all places, Victoria, TX, to learn more about the spa and their services. Last November, I sat down with Daphne, the owner of the Westlake location, the only Woodhouse in the Austin area. Following a tour of the facilities, she and I had a lengthy, informative and all around lovely conversation. Daphne walked me through the history and philosophy behind Woodhouse, and their carefully selected product lines sold and used at the spa. She insisted that I must first try their Signature Minkyti Facial. Sounded good to me!

Local Love: Zimmet Vein & Dermatology

Zimmet Vein & Dermatology - logoA few weeks ago, I was invited to visit Zimmet Vein & Dermatology, the home of Steven E. Zimmet, M.D., a dermatologist who has practiced in Austin for more than 30 years. His practice focuses on non-invasive body contouring, vein treatments, and the two areas I went to learn more about, skin treatments and their med spa.

Dr. Zimmet’s office is conveniently located in central Austin, making it possible for me to have an efficient afternoon visit. Upon my arrival, I was promptly taken to an examination room by Anastacia, one of their two aestheticians. I briefly went over my skin concerns, and then she called in the doctor. He would evaluate my skin and then recommend some treatments. Continue reading

Jenn’s Daytime and Nighttime Skin Regimens

A while back, Wendy posted her morning and evening skin regimens.  At the time, I was still trying out some products to see what would make the cut for my own skin routines.  Now that I’ve decided on my line-up, it’s my turn to share.

The product I was having trouble deciding on were daytime and nighttime serums.  Serums should be rich in skin goodies, and due to their thin, liquidy consistencies, they’re able to deliver those goodies deeper into the skin.  So you see, it’s important to find the right one for you.  Here’s what I’ve landed on:

Ring Around the Rose-y-cea

Rosacea is a pretty common skin condition but surprisingly few of us are aware that we have it.  We just think we have mottled skin with uneven tone that flushes easily, coupled with occasional and seemingly random irritated red bumps on our cheeks that never become full-fledged zits.  Awesome.
