Judicial Review: Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Intense Nude

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in box

I last wrote about my introduction to Estée Lauder color products and alluded to discovering my new favorite lipstick. This Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Intense Nude and Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme may be the only two lipsticks I ever need to buy for the rest of my life.

As I’ve shared before, my lips tend to be flaky and dry, so I prefer a creamy lipstick that’s moisturizing. But just because I want hydration, I don’t want to sacrifice big color payoff. If this interests you, read on.

THE GOOD: I had heard rumblings about how great this lipstick was. In fact, it earned an InStyle’s Best Beauty Buys Editors’ Pick this year. One swipe and you’ll see why. Continue reading

Judicial Review: SKINFOOD Vita Tok Lipgloss in Mocha Aid

SKINFOOD Vita Toc Lipgloss in wrapper

A few months ago I was in California, and my awesome sister Emily (by the way, I have three sisters, all awesome) gave me a grab bag of goodies from SKINFOOD. Knowing that her little sister loves makeup, Emily wanted to share this line of Korean products that are now sold in San Francisco, where she lives. I haven’t tried all the products she gave me yet, but I did try this Vita Tok Lipgloss. It’s fabulous!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Make Up Bag Remix

Make Up For Ever Make Up Bag Remix trailer

The weekend before last, the Parisian cosmetics line MAKE UP FOR EVER brought a big trailer full a makeup to Austin for their Make Up Bag Remix event. Austinites were invited to sign-up for free 30-minute appointments with a professional makeup artist. The cool part is that you were encouraged to bring your own makeup products of any brand, and the artist would give you tips on how to best use what you already have in your collection. Fun!

What’s New in Foundation: Fall 2012

Fall 2012 foundations - Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup, YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, Dior Diorskin Nude Fluid Foundation

Several high-end prestige brands have launched new foundations, and of course, I wanted to try them all. After wandering the beauty aisles at Neiman Marcus, I collected samples from three newly launched products from Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior. The three products I tried each had distinct qualities, but I thought it would be fun to combine the discussion into a trifecta of foundation reviews.

For anyone who is new to reading Beautypendence, please know that I have dry, sensitive skin with mild rosacea. You should keep that and your own skin type in mind as you read my opinions on these three different products. Continue reading

24 Hours to Fabulous

MONDAY NIGHT

7:00 PM:  While babysitting my BFF’s kids, I receive a text from a good friend inviting me to go to a fundraiser dinner with him tomorrow night. It’s a $1000/plate event benefiting Share Our Strength.  Umm, I guess I can skip ballet class for that.  What’s the attire?

Jenn's dress options

10:00 PM:  After much investigation, I receive confirmation that the dress is “Business/Dressy

Business”.  I interpret that as “Cocktail” for women.  Hmm, this may be difficult.  I know it’s odd, but I actually have more formal options than cocktail in the dress archives.  And as I mentioned in my Fashion on a Shoestring post, I haven’t been shopping in a looong time.

11:00 PM:
As suspected, my dress options are limited.  Let’s just say I would be in better shape (pun intended) if this were a stand-up cocktail affair.  I need to find a dress I can semi-comfortably sit in for a multi-course meal.  Yikes.

12:30 AM:  No decisions are being made tonight. I leave the dress options hanging on the door and go to bed. Will deal with it in the morning.

Judicial Review: Sephora by O.P.I. Leotard Optional Nail Colour

Jenn wearing OPI Leotard Optional nail polish

I love wearing nail polish and rarely will you see my fingernails or toenails naked. Typically, I’m a dark nail polish kind of gal. While I have a few dozen nail polish colors, my nails spend most of their time painted a color within a few shades of black or red. However, I’ve always dabbled in wearing nude polish for that chic, fresh look, but it’s been a challenge to find the right nude color for my dark skin. Until now!
