Judicial Review: Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Intense Nude

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in box

I last wrote about my introduction to Estée Lauder color products and alluded to discovering my new favorite lipstick. This Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Intense Nude and Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme may be the only two lipsticks I ever need to buy for the rest of my life.

As I’ve shared before, my lips tend to be flaky and dry, so I prefer a creamy lipstick that’s moisturizing. But just because I want hydration, I don’t want to sacrifice big color payoff. If this interests you, read on.

THE GOOD: I had heard rumblings about how great this lipstick was. In fact, it earned an InStyle’s Best Beauty Buys Editors’ Pick this year. One swipe and you’ll see why. Continue reading

Judicial Review: Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme

I never believed I could fall in love so quickly… with a lipstick. I’ve spent 90% of my make-up wearing life as a lip gloss loyalist, but over the last year I’ve been trying out more lipsticks. As with many of my make-up romances, it all took place at Neiman Marcus, where I was doing my usual browsing, checking out what’s new. All of a sudden, I got the impulse to try on Chanel lipsticks. Having always read about how fabulous they are, I thought I’d give their lipstick line a test drive.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendome, tube and box

After the salesperson walked me through the different varieties, I determined that Chanel’s hydrating lip crème colour Rouge Coco line would be the best fit. It’s not as pigmented as their newer Rouge Allure line, but I was more interested in a moisturizing formula since my lips tend to get dry and flaky when wearing lipstick. And here’s where the real magic happened. I skimmed over the display and picked one and only one tube to test, Vendôme. Perfection. Continue reading

What’s New in Foundation: Fall 2012

Fall 2012 foundations - Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup, YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, Dior Diorskin Nude Fluid Foundation

Several high-end prestige brands have launched new foundations, and of course, I wanted to try them all. After wandering the beauty aisles at Neiman Marcus, I collected samples from three newly launched products from Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior. The three products I tried each had distinct qualities, but I thought it would be fun to combine the discussion into a trifecta of foundation reviews.

For anyone who is new to reading Beautypendence, please know that I have dry, sensitive skin with mild rosacea. You should keep that and your own skin type in mind as you read my opinions on these three different products. Continue reading

Judicial Review: Bite Beauty Lip Shine

Bite Beauty Lip Shine in Melon with boxFor a while, I was going through a lipstick phase. That phase has passed (for now). I’ve been in the lipgloss mood again, so I had to hunt down a new product. I embarked on this daunting search while I was on vacation in Las Vegas, with my nieces as my shopping companions.

First, I tried Neiman Marcus where a kind sales person helped me try nearly a dozen different brands until I finally found a texture and color I liked in Chanel Glossimer. And then they were out of stock. Boo. Next stop was Sephora, where I came upon Bite Beauty. I was attracted to the display and packaging and perused the testers. SOLD. Continue reading

Beauty on a Shoestring: Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Smoothing Scrub

Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Smoothing Scrub

If you read Wendy’s post, you know that it can be tricky having rosacea. You want to do your best to not irritate your skin, but yet it’s really important to exfoliate. Oftentimes, exfoliating products are by their very nature harsh on your skin. So what’s a girl with rosacea (ahem, like me) supposed to do? Continue reading

Judicial Review (From The Bench): Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm

Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm in Sweet Orange, Poetic <a href=onhealthy Pomegranate and Creamy Cocoa” src=”https://www.beautypendence.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Badger_CocoaButterLipBalm-1024×696.jpg” width=”625″ height=”424″ />

Tis the season for trying new things here on Beautypendence! For this Judicial Review, I welcome two guest Judges, Debbie and Christine. Wait… let me back up a little.

The good folks from Badger stumbled upon our humble blog and contacted us. They were interested in sending us some of their organic body care products for a test run. Umm, yeah! So one day, I received a box full of Badger goodies in the mail. First on the Badger line-up is Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. As you can see from the product photo, I received three different flavors, so why not share?

Beauty on a Shoestring: Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick, Lipgloss, and Lip Butter

As I’ve told you before (see Babe on a Budget), my local grocery store, H-E-B, is one of my favorite places to shop for make-up products.  Especially, when I want to be adventurous and try new stuff. Lately, I’ve been really into the Revlon ColorBurst lip line-up.  Thanks to strategic coupon usage, all three of these products cost me less than $15. TOTAL.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in FuchsiaFirst up is Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick. I had read good things about this lipstick, so I thought I’d give it a try.  I first bought the lipsticks in Coral and Fuchsia and later purchased Raspberry.  Fuchsia is my favorite.  The ColorBurst lipstick comes in a  black tube with what I’ve learned is the signature diamond-patterned embossed casing.  It’s a very bright … well, fuchsia color.  The formula is creamy and smooth with good pigmentation.  When I wear it, I get lots of compliments. (I’m telling y’all, bright lipstick is something everyone should try.)  This lipstick was selling at H-E-B for $6.48, and at the time there was a $2 off coupon, so it cost me a grand total of $4.48. Trend Try-On: Crackle Nail Polish Effect with Sephora by OPI Blasted Gold

Jenn wearing OPI Nail Lacquer in Tease-y Does It

Ever wondered about that whole crackle nail polish trend?  Yea, me too.  I think we may be on the tail-end of this trend, however, I do see new crackle color shades coming out (e.g., OPI’s limited edition Pink Shatter for Breast Cancer Awareness Month), so maybe the crackle nail polish trend still has some legs.

I bought the Sephora by OPI Blasted Nail Colour in Blasted Gold.  I figured that the gold would work well with my warm skin tone.  According to Sephora’s website, the polish gives a “blasted effect [of] opaque gold with fine iridescent glitter”.  The way these products work is that you apply it as a top coat to your already applied and dried polish.  I’ve tried wearing this blasted gold with other colors and in this post, I pair it with OPI’s Tease-y Does It, a deep purple with glittery flecks.
