Bombshell Make-up Look

Last December, the New York Times published an article titled, “Lashes, Lashes, Lashes: What It Took to Give the ‘Bombshell’ Women the Fox Look”. I had recently seen the movie and was amazed at the transformations, especially Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly. I thought, I should see if I could recreate that make-up look for Beautypendence.

Then I procrastinated.

And then Bombshell won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Oscars on Sunday night. I thought, “I better get on that!” And I did last night. And it was A LOT of product. Here’s my play by play.

Here’s me, starting from scratch. That means a freshly washed face followed by a serum and moisturizer. Makeup always sits better on a moisturized palette.

Judicial Review: Make Up For Ever HD Blush in #6

Make Up For Ever HD Blush in boxThe makeup experts say that if you have dry skin, then cream blush is a better option over powder blush. And if you read the reviews on Beautypedia, Make Up For Ever has one of the best-rated cream blush options. Many times I’ve tested their HD Microfinish Blush at Sephora, and the strong pigmentation scared me off every time. Last fall, at the Make Up Bag Remix event, I finally received proper instruction direct from the source, and now it’s a favorite item in my makeup kit. Don’t worry, I’ll share with you the trade secret to using this fabulous cream blush.

HD Blush comes in 14 shades, and per the website, “Its mattifying and light-reflecting pigments were specifically selected for a perfect application.” The shade I bought was the one the Make Up For Ever artist used on me – 6 “Quickie”, a salmon pink shade. Paraben free, dermatologist tested, all that good stuff. Continue reading

Beauty on a Shoestring: e.l.f. Shimmering Facial Whip

As I was getting ready for Jenn’s wedding and gathering make-up products, I knew that we would be using a highlighter. If you’ve never used a highlighter, you must try it. It’s not something I would use every day, but it looks great for a more jazzed up look, and it looks especially fabulous in photos.

A cult favorite highlighter that I have used and is great is Benefit High Beam.  It comes in a nail polish like bottle, and you simply dot it on your cheekbones and blend with your fingertips. However, it’s not inexpensive, especially for something I won’t use very often. But then, I was wandering the make-up aisles at Target and found this!

e.l.f. Shimmering Facial WhipIt’s e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Face Whip.  It comes in multiple shades; Target carried Spotlight and Lilac Petal, and I purchased both. And you know what the best tadalafilhome part is? Each tube is only $1. ONE. DOLLAR. For reals.

The Good: It achieves that dewy, light-bouncing effect that a good highlighter does for you. And my goodness, you just can’t beat that price. Plus, it’s a small tube, so you could just keep it in your purse and apply for a day to night make-up transformation after work. Continue reading
