10 Products, 10 Minutes to an Easy Makeup Look

Some mornings, I wake up eager and ready to pull together a detailed, fabulous makeup look. Most mornings, I have snoozed for 18 minutes, am running late, and need to pull together a quick made-up face. Here’s the rundown for a look I’ve been doing a lot the past few months. It takes me about 7-8 minutes, so for those not as quick on the draw, let’s call it an even 10 minutes.

GUEST POST: The Beauty of Love

Julia McCurley portraitEditor’s Note: This guest post is from Austin-based professional matchmaker and relationship expert Julia McCurley of Something More. Julia and I recently met at an event, and I was instantly drawn to her firecracker personality. I’ve invited her to write this guest post on Beautypendence. All opinions shared below are her own.

I know about love… and beauty. Often they are intertwined. Here, I’ll let you look into my makeup drawer to see my favorite products that I use – as well as recommend to my clients. Continue reading

Judicial Review: Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme

I never believed I could fall in love so quickly… with a lipstick. I’ve spent 90% of my make-up wearing life as a lip gloss loyalist, but over the last year I’ve been trying out more lipsticks. As with many of my make-up romances, it all took place at Neiman Marcus, where I was doing my usual browsing, checking out what’s new. All of a sudden, I got the impulse to try on Chanel lipsticks. Having always read about how fabulous they are, I thought I’d give their lipstick line a test drive.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendome, tube and box

After the salesperson walked me through the different varieties, I determined that Chanel’s hydrating lip crème colour Rouge Coco line would be the best fit. It’s not as pigmented as their newer Rouge Allure line, but I was more interested in a moisturizing formula since my lips tend to get dry and flaky when wearing lipstick. And here’s where the real magic happened. I skimmed over the display and picked one and only one tube to test, Vendôme. Perfection. Continue reading

Judicial Review REBUTTAL: Chanel Peridot

It’s a good thing that Wendy and I have a long-standing friendship. Because it was nearly torn apart by a nail polish.

As you read from Wendy’s earlier post, she had high hopes for Chanel’s Peridot nail polish but was heartbroken by the resulting color. She passed the bottle on to me to see if I would have better luck. I believe she secretly hoped it would be a failure for me, as well. Turns out, I LOVE IT.

Fall Beauty Event at Neiman Marcus

Remember Halloween as a kid, where you’d come home from trick-or-treating and empty your big bag of candy on the dining room table?

Yeah, the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event was like that.  (But without my mother inspecting everything for hidden razor blades and taking away all the delicious homemade treats.)

Judicial Review: Chanel Peridot

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in PeridotLet’s just get this out of the way: I don’t want to write this post.  I’d been avoiding it until Jenn politely nudged me.  Why am I openly hostile to something so seemingly harmless?

The Hell with harmless: it’s gorgeous, right??

I’d been coveting this polish for over a month.  Finally two weeks ago I went to the Chanel counter at Saks and saw the bottle in person.  It was even more beautiful than it had looked in the magazines.  I happily forked over $25 and proudly took it to my pedicurist.  She immediately expressed skepticism: she’s been doing my pedicures for around 7 years and I have always preferred dark, rich colors. Essie Wicked is a favorite of mine.  We tried something light and shiny once before and she wouldn’t even let me walk out the door: she took it all off and started over because she knew I’d hate it.  (And I would have but I was trying to be polite.)
