If you’re a frequent reader, you may notice that I’m currently in a trying-out-new-lip-makeup phase. With the hotness of Texas summer, it’s tough to get motivated about trying new anything on my eyes, face or cheeks. For the past few months, I’ve been going sans foundation. For my Beautypendents living in this heat and humidity, you know what I’m talking about. Lip color is a fair compromise for a makeup fanatic in sweat-inducting weather.
Always a sucker for a new, buzz-worthy drugstore brand product, I just had to try Almay’s new Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm. Kate Hudson loves it, and she wouldn’t lie to us, right?
It looks like a lipgloss, but Almay calls it “Liquid Lip Balm”. Per the website: “liquid lip balm combines the lip conditioning care of a balm with the shiny color of your favorite gloss.” It comes in 10 shades, is gluten-free and hypoallergenic.
The Good: Looking for a neutral color for my lips, I opted for Truffle Kiss, a brownish shade. From the photo to the left, you can see that the tube is shorter than your average lipgloss tube, more akin to a tube of lip balm.
The consistency is thick but not at all sticky. There is a hint of vanilla flavor. Liquid Lip Balm feels moisturizing, even after the color wears off. The pigmentation is nice, even and creamy. None of the shades are shimmery, so there’s no glittery residue.
The Questionable: Almay may call this a lip balm, but let’s call a spade a spade. This product is simply a really moisturizing lipgloss. I think people often opt for lip balm because it comes in an easy-to-apply stick that you swipe directly onto your lips or in a tin that you apply hastily with your fingertip. With the applicator wand, you will need to take the same care in application as a regular ole lipgloss.
The Verdict: This is a great, everyday lipgloss/liquid lip balm/whatever you want to call it. For those days that you want to be low key, easy and free, then Liquid Lip Balm is a good option. I would like to try some of the other shades, and at around $5-6 a tube, I won’t break the bank trying Just Plum Good or Cantaloupe Cream. For my Beautypendents who like to keep it natural, Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm is a great choice for you.

Can’t wait to try it! It seems to be a popular product. My local HEB had only 3 tubes left, and none in the colors I wanted. (mmm… maybe they all read about it on beautypendence???)
Sigh. I’ll try again.
I just got a great deal and paid less then $4 for 2!! I got the Truffle Kiss for my Mamma and Blossom Balm for me 🙂 I sent her a photo and a link to this review!!! I said, “A taste of Christmas”.. She is SO exited for it! Love it!
Nice buy! Thanks for reading, Amy!
