Prized Products: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Most of you probably already know about this product, and I feel foolish that I haven’t been using it for years. To think, all those instances of creased eyeshadow could have easily been avoided if I had only been using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. But like Oasis, “I won’t look back in anger”, rather I will enjoy a future filled with long-lasting, crease-free eye makeup. I only started using this primer in the past year, but its so damn good that I have no qualms granting it Prized Product status.

There’s a good reason this is a beauty cult favorite. Eyeshadow Primer Potion lives up to the hype. It comes in a squeeze tube, a relatively recent development for Urban Decay. There are four shades, but I choose to use Original, which is an invisible nude. Eden is nude matte, Greed is shimmering yellow gold, and Sin is champagne shimmer.

To use, squeeze a tiny amount of the cream and apply to your eyelid with your fingertip. I wear it even on days when I’m not wearing eyeshadow, because even though I have dry skin, my eyelids will get oily throughout the day. I like the even color and matte finish it gives to my eyelids. Primer Potion provides a smooth base for applying your eyeshadow, and eyeshadow color appears brighter and more true to how it looks in the pan.

I was skeptical of the claim that this primer would help my eyeshadow stay for 24 hours, crease-free. Well, I don’t ever wear my makeup for 24 hours (and neither should you since you’re washing your face every night, RIGHT??), but it really must be some kind of magic potion. Take a look at the evidence below. First, I have a photo wearing a substantial amount of eyeshadow, using the Primer Potion as a base.

And here’s how my eye makeup looked roughly 12 hours later…

Since it was now evening, I took this second set of photos with a flash and indoor lighting. My skin needs blotting and my eyebrows need grooming, but I’d say my eyeshadow held up pretty nicely, wouldn’t you? If you look carefully, you can still see the brown shadow distinctly from the olive shadow, meaning my eyeshadow didn’t melt into one muddy shade like it normally would without this primer.

You can pick up a tube of Primer Potion for $20 at Sephora. I purchased my 11 oz tube way back in June, and I still have a considerable amount of product left. If you like to wear eyeshadow, Primer Potion is a beauty must. Along with their 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, that makes two Beautypendence Prized Products for Urban Decay!
