The weekend before last, the Parisian cosmetics line MAKE UP FOR EVER brought a big trailer full a makeup to Austin for their Make Up Bag Remix event. Austinites were invited to sign-up for free 30-minute appointments with a professional makeup artist. The cool part is that you were encouraged to bring your own makeup products of any brand, and the artist would give you tips on how to best use what you already have in your collection. Fun!
Believe it or not, I don’t actually have a lot of extra makeup products laying around. I’m very particular and deliberate about what I purchase, so I don’t get stuck with a bunch makeup I never use. I’m kind of an anti-hoarder. At this event, I was more interested in learning about MAKE UP FOR EVER’s products. They’re well known for their high definition and waterproof makeup.
I was assigned to Laura, and she asked me what kind of looks I was interested in. When I get to play makeup with a professional artist, I like to maximize the opportunity and try looks that aren’t for everyday. I’m well versed in applying a daytime work look. Bring on the bright colors! With permission granted, here are the MAKE UP FOR EVER products that Laura used for my punched-up look.
FACE AND CHEEKS
HD High Definition Foundation in 130
HD High Definition Powder
Mat Bronze in 20
HD High Definition Blush in 6 – I have dry skin, so, in theory, a cream blush is preferable, and this product is highly rated. However, I’ve sampled this HD Blush at Sephora, and I got scared away because of the heavy pigmentation. Laura taught me the best trick for using it. She mixed this blush with a squirt of foundation and then used a round, flat-topped brush to apply. This technique gave a perfectly-blended, seamless flush to my cheeks, which you can see in my photo below.
EYES
Aqua Cream in 17
Aqua Shadow in 30E
Aqua Eyes in 11L – To make this purple-colored eyeliner really pop, I lined the inner rims of my eyes with a black eyeliner. It’s a waterproof formula, so it’ll stay put.
Aqua Brow in 25 – Laura told me that this would be the one product I’d end up writing about on the blog, and she was absolutely right. I don’t want to spoil my upcoming post, but I will tell you that after my makeup session, I went inside the mall straight to Sephora to buy it. And that’s saying something from this very brow-particular gal.
LIPS
Aqua Rouge in 1 – With my brightly colored eyes, we went with a shiny nude shade on my lips.
Aqua Lip in 2C
Below you can see my final makeup look. For the record, I was not trying to pull off a Zoolander “Blue Steel” pose. From the photo at the top of this post, you can see that the photo shoot set-up was on the roof of the trailer. It was sunny, and I was squinty.
Fierce stare aside, I think the my makeup look exemplifies MAKE UP FOR EVER’s reputation for creating a flawless, camera ready finish. I love the bold, colorful palette and can’t wait to try out more from this line.
