Last month, I found a delightful surprise on my doorstep, essie’s Winter 2012 Collection. There was lots of ooh-ing and ahh-ing on my part when I opened the package and saw the bold and sparkly colors. Essie Weingarten, Founder and Global Creative Director of essie says of the new collection: “I just love the elegant simplicity of a saturated, vibrant look. It’s so luxe and yet, so easy to put together. It’s one part Queen Elizabeth, two parts Duchess of Cambridge. They don’t mince words and never mince color. There’s no arguing with regal color, it’s just divinely right.”

MAKE UP FOR EVER Make Up Bag Remix
The weekend before last, the Parisian cosmetics line MAKE UP FOR EVER brought a big trailer full a makeup to Austin for their Make Up Bag Remix event. Austinites were invited to sign-up for free 30-minute appointments with a professional makeup artist. The cool part is that you were encouraged to bring your own makeup products of any brand, and the artist would give you tips on how to best use what you already have in your collection. Fun!
Judicial Review: Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme
I never believed I could fall in love so quickly… with a lipstick. I’ve spent 90% of my make-up wearing life as a lip gloss loyalist, but over the last year I’ve been trying out more lipsticks. As with many of my make-up romances, it all took place at Neiman Marcus, where I was doing my usual browsing, checking out what’s new. All of a sudden, I got the impulse to try on Chanel lipsticks. Having always read about how fabulous they are, I thought I’d give their lipstick line a test drive.
After the salesperson walked me through the different varieties, I determined that Chanel’s hydrating lip crème colour Rouge Coco line would be the best fit. It’s not as pigmented as their newer Rouge Allure line, but I was more interested in a moisturizing formula since my lips tend to get dry and flaky when wearing lipstick. And here’s where the real magic happened. I skimmed over the display and picked one and only one tube to test, Vendôme. Perfection. Continue reading
