In addition to my love of beauty and fashion, I have a lifelong adoration of film. Nearly every weekend, you can find me at the best movie house on the planet, Alamo Drafthouse. So when awards season rolls around, its like Christmas morning for me. I live for red carpet fashion. Here are some of my own personal awards from last night’s Golden Globes:
BEST LOOK OF ETHEREAL PRETTINESS: Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron is my top woman crush, and I love her sense of style. At the 2000 Academy Awards, she had one of the best red carpet moments of all time wearing tangerine Vera Wang with 1920s-inspired pin-curled hair. While she hasn’t quite matched that, she rarely misses (except for that cinnamon roll Dior disaster at the 2010 Oscars). Last night she mastered a heavenly look in this blush pink Dior Couture gown with soft side-swept hair adorned with a jeweled headband. She looked like she was floating on the red carpet.
BEST STAYING TRUE TO HER STYLE: Tilda Swinton
I know not everyone likes her fashion sense, but I admire Tilda Swinton for her boldness on the red carpet. She’s daring, and whether you like it or not, she really understands fashion. This sky blue color was magnificent paired with her baby blonde pompadour. The feminine suit jacket is well-tailored, and she looks so statuesque. And the matching bracelets on both wrists is such a smart jewelry choice.
BEST BOMBSHELL BEAUTY: Salma Hayek-Pinault
It must be challenging to dress curvy bodies in red carpet fashion, but Salma Hayek manages to succeed (most memorable for me is the Narcisco Rodriguez gown she wore to the 2003 Golden Globes). Last night, Salma knocked my socks off in Gucci, one of the companies owned by her husband Francois-Henri Pinault. The geometric, flashy gold detailing on the bodice is incredible, and the fit is a dream for her petite but voluptuous figure. I love the choice of the long gold earrings as the only jewelry. And don’t even get me started on how fabulous her ombre, big-curled hair is. Wow!
BEST “LET ME REMIND YOU WHY I’M ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE ON THE PLANET”: Angelina Jolie
Lately, Angelina Jolie has been seen wearing very flowy, columnar gowns on the red carpet. Last night, she brought it. In a big way. The fit of this white satin Atelier Versace with red detailing is impeccable. She pulled her hair back into a bun to show off her cat-eyes enhanced with heavy liner and those infamous lips on full display in movie-star red lipstick. When she stepped out onto the stage to present an award, it literally took by breath away.
BEST OF THE NIGHT: Emma Stone
I would kill to have this Lanvin dress that Emma Stone was wearing. The jewel tones of burgundy and magenta chiffon were stunning paired with her porcelain complexion and red hair. The jeweled eagle buckle on her leather belt is so bad ass. The dramatic eye make-up really makes her striking blue eyes stand out, and she keeps her lips understated with a pretty pale pink pout. I’m obsessed with this whole look, and she’s really been one of my favorites on the red carpet in the last year or so.

I love fashion and that is why I am visiting your blog!
Thanks so much! You’re awesome!
I don’t know what I was thinking, missing this!!
Love this post Jenn! You have completely hit the nail on the head with how you’ve categorized your fashion “bests” from the Golden Globes! Charlize was so ethereally beautiful as you said – the Dior dress was stunning, but it was that utterly gorgeous soft, side-swept up-do & minimalistic make-up look that I really adored!
Tilda is fabulous – she has a strong sense of her own style personality & won’t compromise that for the sake of being seen in the latest trends! Plus, her outfit gave great definition to her figure, creating a beautifully proportioned hourglass silhouette!
Oh, I’m totally with you on Emma Stone’s Lanvin gown – I would give my eye teeth to get my hands on that gown for even one glamorous night! Definitely another piece for my style wish-list! 😉 Great choices! Stay stylish,
The Image Mistress, xoxo
Thanks so much! Don’t you just LOVE the red carpet?
