Beauty on a Shoestring: Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick, Lipgloss, and Lip Butter

As I’ve told you before (see Babe on a Budget), my local grocery store, H-E-B, is one of my favorite places to shop for make-up products.  Especially, when I want to be adventurous and try new stuff. Lately, I’ve been really into the Revlon ColorBurst lip line-up.  Thanks to strategic coupon usage, all three of these products cost me less than $15. TOTAL.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in FuchsiaFirst up is Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick. I had read good things about this lipstick, so I thought I’d give it a try.  I first bought the lipsticks in Coral and Fuchsia and later purchased Raspberry.  Fuchsia is my favorite.  The ColorBurst lipstick comes in a  black tube with what I’ve learned is the signature diamond-patterned embossed casing.  It’s a very bright … well, fuchsia color.  The formula is creamy and smooth with good pigmentation.  When I wear it, I get lots of compliments. (I’m telling y’all, bright lipstick is something everyone should try.)  This lipstick was selling at H-E-B for $6.48, and at the time there was a $2 off coupon, so it cost me a grand total of $4.48.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Spice It UpNext, I purchased the ColorBurst Lipgloss.  I bought it in one of their limited edition  holiday collection colors, Spice It Up, a brick red color with golden shimmer.  It comes with a sponge-tip applicator at the end of a long wand, which is very easy to use.  The end result is rich color with a glassy finish, but not at all sticky.  I’ve also found that this lipgloss has good staying power.  It’s the best lipgloss I’ve used in a while.

And you may want to sit down when I tell you how much I paid for it.  I had a $1 off coupon I found in the aisle, but when I went to the register, for some reason, the tube rang up as $3, so my final price … Two dollars!

I had been reading buzz about the latest addition to the ColorBurst lip products line, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter, so I picked one up last week.  This was my splurgiest purchase of the three at $7.48, no coupon available.  After careful consideration of probable use (a substitute for my usual Rosebud Salve), I reviewed the color choices and bought the Peach Parfait.  Coincidentally, this is the same shade that Emma Stone is wearing in the Lip Butter ad.

ColorBurst Lip Butter comes in a transparent tube, which was helpful in choosing a color, since you could see the actual product through the top. It looks like a lipstick, but it feels like a lip balm. It’s creamy, not tacky, and it does in fact feel very moisturizing. I’ve read other blogs saying that the color is not as sheer as you would think, but when your lips are as naturally dark as mine, it’s pretty sheer. However, I’m totally okay with that. I like the peachy soft color finish.

As you can see by the ratings, the ColorBurst Lipgloss is my favorite, and not just because it was the cheapest.  I think it’s a good compromise of wearing a rich color on your lips, but with the east of use you get in a lipgloss.  For the price, any of these are worth a try.  There are beaucoup shades available in all three, so experiment and report back!
