This will be a recurring post where our Beautypendents answer five questions. Suggest your own interrogation questions in the comments!
#1 – What is your favorite mascara?
WENDY: I’m so glad you asked! I love Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. I have kind of a squinty smile and with other mascaras I’d find it on my cheekbone later in the day. The Clockwork Orange look is NOT was I was going for. This one doesn’t ever migrate, and it’s got pretty good staying power yet comes off with plain soap and water. I do get mascara-envy, though, so I might have to try Jenn’s favorite.
JENN: After trying several of the DiorShow mascaras and liking them, I fell in love with their Iconic Mascara. The plastic brush means it never goes on clumpy, and you can build how much goes on your lashes.
#2 – Who is your favorite female beauty icon?
WENDY: That’s a hard one. I’d have to choose Rita Hayworth. She was beautiful and talented and sexy and sassy.
JENN: I think Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most beautiful women who ever lived. I think I identified with her because of her black hair. And Wendy would appreciate that she has fantastic eyebrows.
#3 – Guiltiest music pleasure?
WENDY: ABBA. It’s just so cliche to be a chick that loves ‘Dancing Queen’ but I am what I am. (Where’s the backwards ‘B’ on my keyboard??)
JENN: I have a pretty serious love of Justin Timberlake, but I don’t feel guilty about it. Also, I do a mean karaoke rendition of Britney Spears’ I’m a Slave 4 U.
#4 – What recent beauty trend can you just not get on board with?
WENDY: The Jersey Shore skank look. (Yes, I said it. Skank.) Skinny jeans. I really don’t think they look flattering on anyone, just less ugly on some. And skinny jeans on men…shudder.
JENN: Several cosmetic companies are putting out purple lipsticks or glosses for the fall, but I kind of think it just makes you look like a corpse.
#5 – “Do as I say, not as I do…” Which of your own beauty rules do you break too often?
WENDY: Despite intellectually understanding that expensive doesn’t automatically equate to better, I still shop like it’s true. This blog has been good for me in that respect because I feel an obligation to search for great products anyone can afford.
JENN: I admit it’s ridiculous since I naturally have dark skin, but I love being tan in the summer. During the hot Texas summer, I like to be out at the pool a lot, and if it’s late in the day, I sometimes won’t apply sunscreen. BUT I will make sure my face has sun protection.

I “scored” a FREE purple lipstick from purchasing some beauty products at the local department store. It’s Lancome Rouge Attraction lipstick in ‘No Excuses’. It looks very similar to the color in the pic above. And if I might say, it was the PERFECT addition to my outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago on October 31, 2011. That’s right, it was the perfect shade for my witch outfit. 😉
