In this series of “Prized Products”, we’ll share those make-up, skincare, and hair products that we just can’t live without.
For the last two or three years, I’ve been growing my hair out, and as that’s been going on, I’ve been a little paranoid of keeping my hair healthy. You can ask my stylist Mark, every time I go and see him, I seek affirmation that my hair isn’t fried. I’m positive that using Davines Momo Conditioner has been key to keeping my hair healthy and shiny. Continue reading →
When I first saw the color selection I wasn’t going to bother: even their lightest shade looked way too dark for me. But for under $10 what did I really have to lose by trying it? I am SO glad I gave it a chance!
As you read a couple weeks ago, Wendy and I attended Neiman Marcus’s Beauty Event Preview Party. Can you say FUN? And dangerous. The samples and makeovers were plentiful, and it’s safe to say that Wendy and I have/will pick up some new, expensive beauty habits.
During the evening, I was sent over to the Giorgio Armani counter to try their products. The make-up artist removed the foundation I was wearing from my cheeks and proceeded to apply their Luminous Silk Foundation on me. I could not believe how good my skin looked. Wait no … how flawless my skin looked! The lovely Armani ladies sent me home with a sample so that I could try it myself and see how the foundation looked in the daylight. Continue reading →
As I was getting ready for Jenn’s wedding and gathering make-up products, I knew that we would be using a highlighter. If you’ve never used a highlighter, you must try it. It’s not something I would use every day, but it looks great for a more jazzed up look, and it looks especially fabulous in photos.
A cult favorite highlighter that I have used and is great is Benefit High Beam. It comes in a nail polish like bottle, and you simply dot it on your cheekbones and blend with your fingertips. However, it’s not inexpensive, especially for something I won’t use very often. But then, I was wandering the make-up aisles at Target and found this!
The Good: It achieves that dewy, light-bouncing effect that a good highlighter does for you. And my goodness, you just can’t beat that price. Plus, it’s a small tube, so you could just keep it in your purse and apply for a day to night make-up transformation after work. Continue reading →
I’ve been wearing Bobbi Brown eye shadows for as long as I can remember, but for some reason I never tried her Long-Wear Cream Shadow. However, this particular summer has been so brutally hot that no matter what I did my shadow was creasing by lunch time. I decided to give Bobbi’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow a shot.
This product has nice variety of shades available, some shimmery and some matte. I took Sandy Gold and Heather home for a test drive. Continue reading →
If you are like me and spend entirely too much time at Sephora, then you must sign-up to be a Sephora Beauty Insider. As you spend money, you build up points that can then be redeemed for small-size samples of products. On more than one occasion, I have found a new beloved product from a sample I received.
My latest sample that has worked its way into my regular make-up rotation is Benefit CORALista.
I love wearing nail polish and rarely will you see my fingernails or toenails naked. Typically, I’m a dark nail polish kind of gal. While I have a few dozen nail polish colors, my nails spend most of their time painted a color within a few shades of black or red. However, I’ve always dabbled in wearing nude polish for that chic, fresh look, but it’s been a challenge to find the right nude color for my dark skin. Until now!
One of the things I love about the Skin Organics line from Ann Webb is that it’s completely up front about the ingredients AND the pH, which is a rarity in the cosmetics world. It’s all printed right on the website and on the container so that speaks volumes for this company.
The claims: “A potent antioxidant blend combining the most absorbable, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C with Idebenone to add protection to your daily moisturizer and help repair damaged skin.” It also claims to be natural, paraben free, cruelty free, gluten free and vegan. [I’m not sure why I’d care about the last two since I don’t plan to spread it on toast, but I’m sure it matters to someone out there so kudos to Skin Organics.]
