For a while, I had been hunting for good sun protection for my face. Let us not forget that even in the winter (or Austin’s weak interpretation of it) you need to wear some kind of sun protection on your face. EVERYDAY.
I was specifically looking for a physical sunblock, which is typically sensitive skin friendly. (If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between “sunscreen” and “sunblock”, or “chemical” and “physical” sunblocks, read this.) The problem with sunblock formulas, however, is that they can leave a white cast on your skin due to the minerals used to do the sunblocking action. It’s not a good look.
I had first seen the COOLA Suncare line at a trusted local beauty store, so I went online to further investigate their self-proclaimed organic products. And then when Wendy and I went to Travaasa, their spa sold COOLA Face SPF20 Mineral Sunscreen, so I bought it in hopes that it would become my go-to daily sunscreen. Continue reading →
I enjoy wearing eye make-up, and sometimes, I like to get a little dramatic with it. As my fellow smoky eye-wearers know, the downside is taking it off at the end of the night. And I do mean completely off.
I’ve tried many eye makeup removers, but my favorite of all time is definitely Mary Kay Oil-Free Makeup Remover. I’m convinced there is no better eye makeup remover for the price ($15).
I have my dear friend Amy to thank for this find. A few years ago, I was visiting her in the DFW metroplex, and I had forgotten to pack my eye makeup remover. Amy said she had just the thing for me. Continue reading →
Last week, I told you about the Dior Event that Wendy and I attended at Neiman Marcus. Dior National Make-up Artist Jeffrey Sanchez created a dramatic smoky eye look for me that I loved, but as far as what to purchase, I wanted something more suitable for a daytime, office make-up look. With some consultation from one of the Dior make-up artists, I ended up with this:
I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Dior mascaras, so when I received a sample of Dior Extase Mascara I was excited to try it!
The claim: “A revolutionary formula with spectacular plumping volume that glides over the lashes to coat them one by one. Enriched with Metamorphosis Powder and spherical black pearl pigments, it is specially designed to amplify lash volume and deliver deep intensity to the eyes in a single stroke. …the brush with its exclusive couture design combines two types of fibers to coat and comb the lashes for guaranteed volume.”
In early September, Wendy and I attended Neiman Marcus’s Beauty Event Preview Party. That night, we spent a good amount of time chatting with a ReVive representative, learning about their line of skincare products developed by a plastic surgeon. The representative generously gave us both several sample products. Of the selection, I decided to give the Fermitif Neck Renewal Cream a trial run. I remember the sales rep saying it was the product most recommended from other vendors. It was a 0.5 oz sample jar, which with twice a day application lasted around six weeks. I have to admit, I was very surprised by the results. Continue reading →
When I first saw the color selection I wasn’t going to bother: even their lightest shade looked way too dark for me. But for under $10 what did I really have to lose by trying it? I am SO glad I gave it a chance!
As you read a couple weeks ago, Wendy and I attended Neiman Marcus’s Beauty Event Preview Party. Can you say FUN? And dangerous. The samples and makeovers were plentiful, and it’s safe to say that Wendy and I have/will pick up some new, expensive beauty habits.
During the evening, I was sent over to the Giorgio Armani counter to try their products. The make-up artist removed the foundation I was wearing from my cheeks and proceeded to apply their Luminous Silk Foundation on me. I could not believe how good my skin looked. Wait no … how flawless my skin looked! The lovely Armani ladies sent me home with a sample so that I could try it myself and see how the foundation looked in the daylight. Continue reading →
You might recall my Judicial Review of Chanel Peridot, where I ranted (maybe just a little) about how ugly the polish made my feet look. When I saw Dior Vernis Purple Revolution it was lust at first sight, and my heart swelled with the promise of a match made in heaven: my toes and this darkly exotic purple polish.
SEE??? Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it, Chanel Peridot! It’s not me, it’s you. [This is almost as satisfying as seeing your ex with a new girlfriend markedly less attractive than you. Or she’s more attractive than you but she has something hanging out of her nose. Anyway. Moving on.] Continue reading →
I’ve been a one-foundation woman for as long as I can remember: Bobbi Brown’s SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer. We’ve been through a lot together and it’s never let me down, but lately I’ve been wondering what else is out there. How do I really know it’s the best if I don’t test drive another? I needed to get some foundation “strange”.
I went looking for excitement on the other side of the tracks: the drugstore. In my Beauty Bill of Rights (Article IV) I stated that some things are worth paying a little more for, foundation being my example. Could I be satisfied with something so…common? For my first, I went for something with stamina: Almay Truly Lasting Color with SPF 15. I’ve never strayed from Bobbi and I was nervous: would I look chalky or cheap?
