Make-up Styling for a Wedding, Part IV: Game Time!

FRIDAY EVENING
I arrived in Seattle the Friday morning before the wedding on Saturday.  That evening, they hosted a fun barbecue at a park with the most spectacular view of the city.  Afterwards, we drove to Poulsbo out on the Olympic peninsula so that we could get an early start Saturday morning.  I had insisted that we do a make-up run-through sometime on Friday, so about 11 PM in our hotel room, we finally had our chance.

Judicial Review: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer

http://beautypendence.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/neutrogena1.jpgSome might recall my dalliance with Almay’s foundation that ended in disappointment.  I’m thrilled to report that I have a new love and I think this time it’s the real thing: Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Enhancer foundation.

When I first saw the color selection I wasn’t going to bother: even their lightest shade looked way too dark for me.  But for under $10 what did I really have to lose by trying it?  I am SO glad I gave it a chance!

Make-up Styling for a Wedding, Part III: Ingredients List

Last time we talked, Jenn had responded to some make-up inspirations that I sent her. She was on board for a neutral palette of an overall peach overtone, with punched up eyes. Based on that information, I devised an “ingredients list” to cook-up Jenn’s perfect wedding make-up look. Some of the products she would buy, and some I would bring with me. To come up with this list, I mentally walked through her make-up application.

Judicial Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

As you read a couple weeks ago, Wendy and I attended Neiman Marcus’s Beauty Event Preview Party. Can you say FUN? And dangerous. The samples and makeovers were plentiful, and it’s safe to say that Wendy and I have/will pick up some new, expensive beauty habits.

Jenn in Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation at Neiman MarcusDuring the evening, I was sent over to the Giorgio Armani counter to try their products. The make-up artist removed the foundation I was wearing from my cheeks and proceeded to apply their Luminous Silk Foundation on me.  I could not believe how good my skin looked. Wait no … how flawless my skin looked! The lovely Armani ladies sent me home with a sample so that I could try it myself and see how the foundation looked in the daylight. Continue reading

Judicial Review: Almay Truly Lasting Color with SPF 15

Almay TLC SPF 15I’ve been a one-foundation woman for as long as I can remember: Bobbi Brown’s SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer.  We’ve been through a lot together and it’s never let me down, but lately I’ve been wondering what else is out there.  How do I really know it’s the best if I don’t test drive another?  I needed to get some foundation “strange”.

I went looking for excitement on the other side of the tracks: the drugstore.  In my Beauty Bill of Rights (Article IV) I stated that some things are worth paying a little more for, foundation being my example.  Could I be satisfied with something so…common?  For my first, I went for something with stamina: Almay Truly Lasting Color with SPF 15.  I’ve never strayed from Bobbi and I was nervous: would I look chalky or cheap?

Beauty on a Shoestring: e.l.f. Shimmering Facial Whip

As I was getting ready for Jenn’s wedding and gathering make-up products, I knew that we would be using a highlighter. If you’ve never used a highlighter, you must try it. It’s not something I would use every day, but it looks great for a more jazzed up look, and it looks especially fabulous in photos.

A cult favorite highlighter that I have used and is great is Benefit High Beam.  It comes in a nail polish like bottle, and you simply dot it on your cheekbones and blend with your fingertips. However, it’s not inexpensive, especially for something I won’t use very often. But then, I was wandering the make-up aisles at Target and found this!

e.l.f. Shimmering Facial WhipIt’s e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Face Whip.  It comes in multiple shades; Target carried Spotlight and Lilac Petal, and I purchased both. And you know what the best tadalafilhome part is? Each tube is only $1. ONE. DOLLAR. For reals.

The Good: It achieves that dewy, light-bouncing effect that a good highlighter does for you. And my goodness, you just can’t beat that price. Plus, it’s a small tube, so you could just keep it in your purse and apply for a day to night make-up transformation after work. Continue reading

Fall Beauty Event at Neiman Marcus

Remember Halloween as a kid, where you’d come home from trick-or-treating and empty your big bag of candy on the dining room table?

Yeah, the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event was like that.  (But without my mother inspecting everything for hidden razor blades and taking away all the delicious homemade treats.)
