Golden Globes 2013 Recap

One of my favorite pastimes is watching the red carpet. I am a fanatic for haute couture gowns. But, alas, I no longer have cable, and hence, I don’t get to watch E!’s pre-awards show coverage like the good ole days of yore. However, my recap of last year’s Golden Globes was one of the most fun to write, so I decided I wouldn’t deny myself the pleasure of (nit)picking last night’s fashion. But I must add the disclaimer that without having seen the fashion in action, waltzing down the carpet, my analysis is based solely on still photos.

BEST RISKIEST CHOICE: Lucy Liu

This dress is one that a lot of people won’t like, but I totally love it. Yes, it’s reminiscent of wallpaper you’d find hung in the family dining room of a 19th century house, but somehow Lucy Liu is pulling off this dress. The shape is classic ball gown as done by Carolina Herrera, but the bold, floral print is unexpected and gorgeous. Lucy’s long, fishtail braid brings a modern touch to the look. And with so much going on in the dress, it was smart to select simple, diamond drop earrings as her only jewelry.

What’s New in Foundation: Fall 2012

Fall 2012 foundations - Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup, YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, Dior Diorskin Nude Fluid Foundation

Several high-end prestige brands have launched new foundations, and of course, I wanted to try them all. After wandering the beauty aisles at Neiman Marcus, I collected samples from three newly launched products from Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior. The three products I tried each had distinct qualities, but I thought it would be fun to combine the discussion into a trifecta of foundation reviews.

For anyone who is new to reading Beautypendence, please know that I have dry, sensitive skin with mild rosacea. You should keep that and your own skin type in mind as you read my opinions on these three different products. Continue reading

InStyle’s Best Beauty(pendence) Buys

cover of InStyle magazine's May 2012 issueThe May issue of InStyle magazine is without question the one magazine I look forward to every year. And that’s because it’s the annual Best Beauty Buys issue. As you might tell, I do a hefty amount of research before purchasing any beauty products, and this issue has been an important resource for me for years. And to celebrate this year’s list, the first of hopefully many in the Beautypendence era, I thought it would be fun to point out all the make-up, skin, body and hair products in this year’s issue that I’ve discussed on the blog. Here goes… Continue reading

Judicial Review: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess MascaraWhen I was last at Neiman Marcus to pick up a new bottle of my favorite Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Martina, the wonderful Armani beauty sales associate, gave me some goodies. One sample in my bag was Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara. I gave it a test drive, and here’s the story.

Jenn’s Ten-Minute Face: Winter Edition

Back in September, I wrote a post about my five-minute make-up face.  Now that the heat has FINALLY gone away, I can tolerate wearing a little more product.  For winter, I’ve been wearing foundation everyday and have punched up the color on my lips. Here’s my go-to make-up look when I want to quickly get out the door but still look put together.

Beauty Makeover Shopping Spree!

Lynnette is one of our nearest and dearest friends.  I can’t really speak enough about how much I love this woman.  She is truly awesome.  So when she asked me a few months ago if I would help her buy some skincare and make-up products, I said absolutely, yes.

Lynnette and Jenn

The two of us at my birthday this summer

Lynnette is 47 years-old, has raised two beautiful daughters both in their 20s, is married to a wonderful man, and works full-time.  As you can see from the photo above, she has bright blue eyes and great luminous skin.  Let’s all hope we age as well as she has.

Judicial Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

As you read a couple weeks ago, Wendy and I attended Neiman Marcus’s Beauty Event Preview Party. Can you say FUN? And dangerous. The samples and makeovers were plentiful, and it’s safe to say that Wendy and I have/will pick up some new, expensive beauty habits.

Jenn in Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation at Neiman MarcusDuring the evening, I was sent over to the Giorgio Armani counter to try their products. The make-up artist removed the foundation I was wearing from my cheeks and proceeded to apply their Luminous Silk Foundation on me.  I could not believe how good my skin looked. Wait no … how flawless my skin looked! The lovely Armani ladies sent me home with a sample so that I could try it myself and see how the foundation looked in the daylight. Continue reading
