I spent most of June in the Philippines visiting my family. It was pretty special — I traveled to new cities, ate way too much, and saw family members I hadn’t seen in decades. During my trip to Cebu, I was completely spoiled with an overnight stay at Mövenpick Hotel on Mactan Island. A beautiful beachfront hotel, this Swiss hotel has created a fresh, contemporary, stylish retreat.
I last wrote about my introduction to Estée Lauder color products and alluded to discovering my new favorite lipstick. This Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Intense Nude and Chanel Rouge Coco in Vendôme may be the only two lipsticks I ever need to buy for the rest of my life.
As I’ve shared before, my lips tend to be flaky and dry, so I prefer a creamy lipstick that’s moisturizing. But just because I want hydration, I don’t want to sacrifice big color payoff. If this interests you, read on.
Last month, I showed up bright and early at my local Neiman Marcus for a makeup session with Estee Lauder global makeup artist Victor Henao. If you’ve read the posts about my skincare regimen, you know that I’m a big fan of Advanced Night Repair serum. (Seriously, I don’t think you’ll find anything better for the price.) However, Estee Lauder color products have somehow escaped my use. I was exciting to have a real pro show me the ropes.
THE DRESS: The July 2009 issue of InStyle magazine featured a fashion spread with Marion Cotillard. In one photo (left), she wore a black, floor-length Reem Acra jersey gown. I became obsessed. The beautiful draping into a high, middle slit, the plunging neckline, the ruching at the sleeves — FLAWLESS. I had to have this dress! There’s only one small problem. No way can I afford a Reem Acra gown.
December 2009, I traveled to the Philippines to spend the holidays with my family. I would attempt to have my dream dress made. Dressmakers in the Philippines are affordable and able to make dresses simply from looking at a photo. My niece helped me pick a fabric. I selected a matte jersey so I could match the draping, but I opted for a teal color. Typically, I avoid wearing black for black-tie events. Continue reading
I know many women are intimidated by eyeshadow. Don’t be scared, ladies! Eyeshadow is the best. Like paint for your walls, it’s a cheap and easy way to brighten things up. It’s easier than you think to apply everyday. Here’s my no-fail formula.
The Oscars – film, fashion, the pinnacle of awards season. I don’t usually cover the Oscars on my blog, but this year, I feel compelled. But not for the red carpet fashion, because let’s face it, last night was kind of a snooze fest. (Except for Lupita Nyong’o who has won every red carpet of 2014.) However, there were some outstanding beauty looks last night. Here are my picks. Continue reading
College football season is over. Formula 1 doesn’t start up again until March. However, a new season has begun — awards season. And that means RED CARPET EXTRAVAGANZA! The season kicked off with the Golden Globes last Sunday. It’s been a stellar year for film, but I’m sad to report that I was overall underwhelmed with the fashion. However, there were a few standouts. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the winners of the 3rd Annual Beautypendence Golden Globes recap are …
Last month, I was fortunate to spend eight days and eight nights in one of my favorite cities, Seattle. I was there for many reasons, namely to attend my best friend John’s wedding, watch the Longhorns play in the NCAA Volleyball Final Four and spend Christmas with Oregon Jenn and her family (you’ll remember her as the beautiful bride.) Wrapping up things before leaving town for more than a week meant that I didn’t have time to give myself a manicure. Chipped nail polish is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. The morning following my arrival in the Emerald City, getting a manicure was high on the priority list.
I tasked John with finding a nail salon for us to get manis. I trusted him to find the perfect place, and he nailed it. (HA! Pun intended!) We ended up at Julep Nail Parlor. I was excited. I had heard of Julep nail color, but I had no idea that it was borne out of Seattle and these chic nail salons.
There are many things I miss about living in Austin, and Hiatus Spa + Retreat is one of them. For those who are not familiar with Hiatus, they have a super awesome membership program where as an H-Circle member you pay $59/month and receive one Essential Service – a massage, facial, mani-pedi, body glow, or body wrap – each month. It’s a great deal for any of these top-notch offerings. Continue reading
