GUEST POST: Hair After Chemo by Sarah

EDITOR’S NOTE: Beautypendence is proud to bring you this three-part series about growing back hair after chemo. (See first post about my mom’s experience here.) Sarah and I were in the same arts administration graduate program at the University of Oregon from 2003-2005. Not only is Sarah an outstanding museum professional, she’s a wife and mother of two super cool kids. Plus, we have Sarah to thank for this brilliant blog series idea! I know you’ll enjoy reading her story below, written in her own beautiful words.

The idea of me writing a post for a beauty blog is sure to have anyone who knows me rolling in the aisles. I’m about the last person on earth anyone would expect to do such a thing!! I’m renowned for telling my hairstylist “Give me something easy,” and it took cancer to really give me an appreciation for makeup. A few months ago I wrote to Jenn, goddess of all things beauty related, and encouraged her to write a post about growing-out hair. Staying true to her desire to keep this blog very first hand, she asked me to do so instead. So here it goes…

GUEST POST: Mistletoe Mayhem: How To Create It Beautifully This Year

Editor’s Note: It’s another guest post from Austin-based professional matchmaker and relationship expert Julia McCurley. Here she shares her tips for creating some magic under the mistletoe. For more information on how to transform your love life, please visit her website: www.trysomethingmore.com. All opinions shared below are her own.

Mistletoe, Julia McCurleySanta Claus is coming to town. Will you be ready for what he brings you?  At this time of year emotions run very high. If you are attached, it can be the most romantic time of the year. If you are unattached, it can seem like “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Going solo to all those events, answering all those questions like, “Why are you single?” And, of course, there may be no one to stand with under the mistletoe.  This is where my experience in offline personalized matchmaking services comes to the rescue. I specialize in helping people find the love of their life. Continue reading

GUEST POST:: Everything’s Bigger In Texas, Y’all – Part III

EDITOR’S NOTE: I am so pleased to share Beautypendence’s first ever guest post, in three parts. Debbie is a dear, longtime friend who was so generous to share her personal story with you. I hope that you enjoy!

This is the final segment of this story, but if you need to catch up, read Part I and Part II.

Fast forward a few years, I was still a 36G. Well, I hadn’t actually been measured again, and my breasts could have reached “Humongous” on the alphabet, but I was going to make them fit in my existing bras, having spent so much on them. Then, a friend had reduction surgery and had great results. Just her boobs, not the rest of her, took the Texas slogan to heart. So, at the ripe old age of 48, I decided reduction surgery was the right decision for me, too. I went for my consultation. Yes, I had back and neck pain; yes, I had bilateral grand canyons on my shoulders; and yes, with a few pictures (which would never get me a job if I were advertising my “wares” on the internet), I was approved for surgery by my insurance company. EDITOR’S NOTE: I am so pleased to share Beautypendence’s first ever guest post, in three parts. Debbie is a dear, longtime friend who was so generous to share her personal story with you. I hope that you enjoy!

If you missed Part I of Debbie’s story, you can read it here.

Debbie, pre-breast reduction surgery

As I grew a little older, I was happier with my boobs. I left the confines of home to start training as a nurse at a London Hospital. I had to wear a stupid hat there too, but apparently it didn’t give the same “PLEASE GROPE ME” message. But the catcalls continued. I think English workmen have a fetish about nurses in uniform.

When I entered a wet t-shirt competition during a week-long motorcycle racing event on the Isle of Man, my boobs were much admired. I had fun… and four pictures in Club International. If you’re not familiar with this publication, let’s just say the women are usually lacking more than a wet t-shirt. Also, I learned that the squadron leader for the Red Arrows (the Royal Air Force Display Team) voted for me. I think it was the red trousers I was wearing. Continue reading

How many “mottos” you have heard for Texas? “Don’t mess with Texas”; “Texas: It’s like a Whole Other Country”. There are loads of them; however, the one that resonates with me the most is “Everything’s Bigger in Texas”. Yes, Texas is really big, but that is not why it is so meaningful to me.

I have never been thin. Voluptuous? Yes. Curvaceous? Yes. Shapely… you get the picture. Well, you can look at the picture below. Damn, I used to look good! Yes, it was 30 years ago in Jamaica where I followed my then boyfriend of eight months. He says he left the country to escape me, but I hired Pinkerton Detectives to track him down and dogged his every step since. I think that is a bit harsh, but we have now been together for over 30 years, so he can’t really be trying to escape too hard.
