Beautypendence Turns One: 10 Favorite Posts

It’s hard to believe it was a year ago that Wendy and I were launching a new beauty blog. Lots has happened in the past year, and I couldn’t be more proud of Beautypendence. The most wonderful, unexpected outcome has been the new community created in my world around beauty. There’s a long list of generous beauty-based businesses and professionals I’ve worked with in this first year, but mostly, I send a big virtual hug to you, the readers!

To celebrate, I thought I’d share 10 favorite posts, in no particular order, from Beautypendence’s inaugural year. It was tough to narrow it down from the 91 total posts on the blog (what? wow!), but I think you’ll find some gems here.

Collage of Jenn's Hair, 2002-2011

#1 – Meant For Each Other: My Hairstylist Mark (Nov 22, 2011) – With this post, I created my favoritest collage for the blog ever, showing my hairstyles from the past 10 years. I still use it for reference when I’m thinking about what direction to take my hair next.

#2 – Guest Post: Everything’s Bigger in Texas, Y’all – Part I, Part II, and Part III (Apr 12-26, 2012) – Debbie was so incredibly generous to share her story with the whole world. I mean, how willing are you to talk about your boobs on the interwebs?

#3 – How to Look Younger Overnight – 8 Easy Steps! (Oct 23, 2011) – This is an extraordinarily helpful post by Wendy with a great list of easy things you can do to make sure you’re looking your best, youthful self.

#4 – Beauty Makeover Shopping Spree! (Dec 15, 2011) – Not surprisingly, these days I am asked more frequently for beauty advice from my friends, several stories you’ve read online here. Helping Lynnette discover her beauty routine at the age of 47 proves that it’s never too late to try a little harder.

#5 – Rock ‘n Roll Inspiration: St. Vincent (Oct 26, 2011) – I didn’t plan or expect to write this one, which is why I love it so much. I went to a rock show and ended up writing a beauty/fashion post the next day. Gotta love the random people, places and events that bring you inspiration.

#6 – Beauty on a Shoestring: Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick, Lipgloss, and Lip Butter (Dec 3, 2011) – I did enjoy writing this, but truth be told, it mostly makes the list because it’s far and away the most read post on the blog. Like more than double the views of any other post on the blog. And every day it has the most views. If you’ve never read it, find out what all the fuss is about.

#7 – Jenn’s Beauty Bill of Rights (Aug 21, 2011) – One of the first posts I ever wrote, filled with good beauty nuggets (sunscreen on the hands, don’t forget to accessorize, etc.) that capture my beauty philosophy.

#8 – The Filibuster: A Man’s Guide to a First Date (Aug 28, 2011) – And now a little something for the gents! Don’t say we never write content for men, because Wendy wrote this great post about how to handle the first date.

#9 – Chanel Peridot – Wendy’s Judicial Review (Aug 31, 2011) and Jenn’s Rebuttal (Sep 13, 2011) – This nail polish caused a bit of a riff between Wendy and me, so read both posts and pick a side. And yes, I still wear this nail polish, because it’s awesome.

#10 – Judicial Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (Sep 21, 2011) – Without Beautypendence, I probably wouldn’t have gone to the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event last fall, and I probably would never had tried this foundation, and that’s a really scary thought. I wear this foundation every day, and it’s absolutely my most favorite product I’ve discovered during the tenure of the blog.

So trusted Beautypendents, do you have a favorite post from the first year? Please share in the comments!
